Baer Helicoil - BaerCoil

Helicoil: top quality threaded inserts for strengthening and repairing your threads

Helicoil inserts, also known as Helicoil threaded inserts, are essential components for reinforcing or repairing worn and damaged threads. Made of high-strength A2 stainless steel, these coil-type springs are inserted into a tapped hole to create a new precise and long-lasting internal thread.

Technical overview of BaerCoil® thread inserts

BaerCoil® threaded inserts offer tensile strength of at least 1400 N/mm².

With their diamond-shaped cross-section, this model of Helicoil is the perfect combination of performance and space optimisation. Once fitted, they create a high-precision internal thread / female thread, with an exceptional surface finish and high resistance to abrasion, corrosion and heat.

Helicoil thread inserts: technical specifications

  • Protection and durability: Baer Helicoil threaded inserts protect threads against abrasion, wear and tear due to repeated screwing, and corrosion.
  • Repairs and reinforcement: excellent for repairing damaged threads or reinforcing threads with low shear strength such as aluminium, magnesium and plastics.
  • Even load distribution: the inserts' flexibility can make up for pitch and angle errors, allowing for optimal force transmission between the screw and the internal thread in the case of both static and dynamic loads.
  • Reduced friction and torque: with their low frictional torque, these inserts reduce torsional stress by 90% when compared to non-reinforced threads. This property means they have a better constant preload during repeated screwing.
  • Minimal weight and space: their design allows for maximum load capacity while also reducing the amount of fastening attachment points needed & the size of the required screws. This saves material, frees up space, and reduces weight, without compromising on mechanical performance.

Used in the aeronautical, mechanical engineering and military equipment sectors, BaerCoil threaded inserts are exceptionally effective even in heavy-duty environments.

All this means that this model of Helicoil is ideally suited for optimising bolted joints, as well as helping you reduce production costs while guaranteeing strength and durability.

Standards for Helicoil Baer / Baercoil thread inserts

Helicoil inserts from Baer (our partner for this product family) meet the highest industry standards, i.e. DIN 8140, while also being compatible with taps and installation tools from other manufacturers.

Some models also respect other specific standards, such as DIN 65536, EN 2944 and NASM 21209.

Why use a Helicoil insert?

Using Helicoil inserts offers considerable benefits:

  • Reinforcing fragile threads: ideally suited to materials like aluminium, magnesium and even plastic, Helicoil inserts are equipped with high shear strength.
  • Quick repair solution: Helicoil inserts effectively replace the damaged thread, creating a new solid grounding point for your bolted joints.
  • High durability: exceptional resistance to abrasion, corrosion and high temperatures thanks to its robust stainless steel design, made in Germany by our partners at Baer.

As well as improving assembly quality, Helicoil inserts reduce both the space and weight required by reducing the size of the fasteners while also maintaining optimal solidity.

The different Helicoil ranges

In order to best meet all your requirements, we offer two varieties of Baer Helicoil inserts:

  1. Free Flowing Helicoil inserts (AKA free running): perfect for standard assemblies that require occasional dismantling and reassembly. Their design allows forces to be distributed evenly, which helps reduce the effect of abrasion on the threads.
  2. Screw Grip Helicoil inserts: ideal for environments prone to vibrations or intense shocks. Can be recognised by their red colour. They offer firm fastening and help prevent any accidental loosening.
