100 years of industry, transmission, and local roots

In today's industrial landscape, it is rare to see a company celebrate a century of existence while retaining its independence, family spirit, and local production.

Yet this is precisely what Gardette has achieved, celebrating its 100th anniversary in Villefranche-sur-Saône in 2026.

Since its founding, the company has successfully navigated the changing times by combining traditional expertise, family spirit, and technological innovation.

Let's take a look back at this extraordinary human and industrial adventure.

Summary
  1. A century of expertise in a niche market
  2. Transmission as our DNA
  3. Regional roots: a strong strategic choice
  4. A solid group focused on the future

A century of expertise in a niche market

Founded in 1926, Gardette has established itself in an extremely demanding market: the manufacture of keys and pins.

These parts, which are essential for transmitting motion in industry, have enabled the group to become one of the ten major global players in its sector.

This success is based on a clear vision: controlling its supply chain by producing the specific raw materials required in-house.

It is this model of integration that today makes us strong and unique. From the creation of the family workshop to our international expansion, discover the key dates:

Transmission as DNA

At Gardette, the word “transmission” does not only refer to mechanical movement. It is the common thread in the history of the company and the group.

More than just an industrial success, Gardette is a human adventure that spans generations. The concept of transmission is twofold here:

  1. Mechanical transmission: via our products that drive engines around the world.
  2. Hierarchical transmission: Jean-Sébastien Weldé, who joined as an apprentice in 1998, is now in charge of operational management, supported by Philippe Gardette, president and grandson of the founder.
  3. Generational transmission: The arrival of Paul Gardette in the group marks the entry of the 4th generation, with an eye on digitalization and diversification.

Territorial anchoring: a strong strategic choice

While relocation seemed to be the norm for a long time, Gardette has always made the opposite choice: that of France and proximity. Established in Villefranche-sur-Saône for a century, we have continued to strengthen our local industrial facilities in Villars and Décines.

This territorial presence is not just a question of history, it is an asset of reactivity. That's what we call the ” Key Responsive Manufacturing ”.

A nod to our core business (the key/ Key in English) and the guarantee for our customers of a “turnkey” solution with maximum agility.

A solid group looking to the future

Today, the Gardette Group represents 200 employees spread over a dozen sites, from France to the United States, including Spain and Taiwan.

Building on this century of experience, the group is constantly reinventing itself. Whether by acquiring new skills (as in the nautical sector in 2024) or by exploring new international markets, Gardette proves that you can be 100 years old and be more dynamic than ever.
