What do Helicoil Screw Grip threaded inserts do?

Helicoil threaded inserts, sometimes called recoils, are an essential component for many professionals who deal with connections.

Their main function is to repair or reinforce damaged or worn threads in various materials such as metal or plastic.

Once installed in the receiving thread of the tapped part, the Helicoil insert acts directly on the shear strength. During the installation, the Helicoil is compressed under the pull effect exerted by the screw, thus strengthening and holding your assembly securely.

This Helicoil insert is available in 304 stainless steel, in the shape of a spring inserted into a pre-drilled hole, creating a new internal thread.

With a larger outer diameter than that of the original hole, the Helicoil reinforces the thread. Once in place, the Helicoil insert creates a new abrasion-resistant thread, into which abolt or a screw can then be installed.

It is mainly used in materials with low shear strength, such as aluminium and aluminium-magnesium alloys.

Helicoils can be used to:

  • Repair damaged threads quickly and easily.
  • Reinforce taps in delicate materials.
  • Achieve optimal resistance to corrosion and to extreme temperatures.

Various threads available (metric, UNC, UNF, BSF). We offer the Helicoil threaded insert in the form of kits, with various assortments and your choice of diameter.

What makes “Screw Grip” thread inserts different?

Threaded inserts are generally made of stainless steel.

Our threaded inserts are made of high-strength stainless steel wire that has been formed into a diamond-shaped cross section according to precise dimensional standards. Once installed, the thread insert creates a high-precision female (internal) thread with excellent surface finish and high strength (tensile strength of at least 1400 N/mm²).

Helicoil Screw Grip threaded inserts, made of A2 stainless steel, guarantee greater resistance to wear and corrosion.

Advantages of using a Screw Grip insert

Less wear and tear: The Helicoil Screw Grip provides much better resistance to frequent loosening and tightening in all possible materials, such as aluminium, magnesium, titanium, copper, steel, as well as plastic.

Reduced weight and space: Thanks to Helicoil inserts' maximum load capacity, fewer fixing points are required and screw dimensions can thus be reduced. This means less parts, installation space and weight, while still maintaining the same (or higher) standards.

Even distribution of clamping force: with Helicoil Screw Grip inserts, static and dynamic loads are distributed more evenly across the different parts of the thread. The thread inserts' flexibility compensates for pitch and angle errors in order to achieve an ideal transmission of force between the screw and the thread.

What threaded insert should I choose?

For assemblies that must be able to resist shocks, vibration or constant movements, we recommend the Helicoil Screw Grip range.

Helicoils are red in colour, meaning they can easily be distinguished from the Helicoil Free Running range. Other than this, the colour has no other practical function.

For traditional assemblies and assemblies that are often dismantled and reassembled, the Helicoil Free Running range is to be preferred.

Please note that our Helicoil thread repair inserts are generally compatible with thread inserts, installation tools and taps from other manufacturers.

All our threaded inserts are standardised (usually to the DIN 8140 standard) and thus have the same dimensions. On the other hand, some of our products meet standards DIN 65536, EN 2944, LN 9039, LN 9490, LN 9499, LN 9499, LN 9499, NASM 21209, etc.
