Cold formed and machined bars

Cold drawing is a manufacturing technique that involves reducing the diameter of a metallic material by pulling it through a die that is smaller in dimension.

At the end of this process, the result is precise steel bars with enhanced mechanical properties, including improved strength.

Thecold drawing process involves several key stages:

  1. Initial pickling stage: The raw material undergoes mechanical pickling AKA shot blasting to eliminate any rust, scale, or debris and prepare its surface for cold forming.
  2. Cold rolling / cold roll forming: The shot-blasted material is then cold-rolled in order to achieve a semi-finished form close to the final dimensions specified by the client. This step is where the material is formed to ensure more consistent dimensions.
  3. Heat treatment: After cold rolling, the material is heat treated in a furnace for wires or bars to reduce internal stresses and achieve the client’s desired structure.
  4. Second round of pickling: Shot blasting once again in order to eliminate post-heat treatment scale residue and prepare the material for drawing.
  5. Cold-drawing: The material is drawn through a narrow die using heads, then straightened out and finally sheared to the desired length. This final step gives the product the precise dimensions required and improves its mechanical properties.

At our second production site, based in Villars, France, we have over 10 000m2 of space dedicated to cold forming (rolling and drawing).

Our cold roll forming, drawing and heat treatment equipment allow us to produce a wide variety of standard (flat, square, round, hexagonal) and made-to-order bespoke profiles in various grades of steel.

  • Carbon steels (C22, C45, etc.)
  • Low-alloy steels (42CrMo4, 16NiCr6, etc.)
  • Tool steels (90MnV8, 100Cr6, etc.)
  • Stainless steel (304, 304L, 316Ti, etc.)

Bespoke steel bar and profile drawing

On top of the products we stock, which are available without any minimum order amount, we also offer a custom steel andstainless steel bar drawing service:

  • Diameters: 4 to 1000 mm2
  • Flat, round, hexagonal, shaped...
  • Bars (3-4 metres) and wire
